In April 2009, the Lincoln Regional Center closed a successful rehabilitation program for people with severe mental illness. Now the welfare of another one of the states most vulnerable populations is in serious jeopardy.

The Legislature is currently studying the program’s closure under Legislative Resolution 136, and held a hearing on Aug. 26, 2009. Family members, local mental health professionals, national experts and a representative from the state Ombudsman’s office testified in support of the closed program, and petitioned the Committee to bring psychiatric rehabilitation back to the region.
